The Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Yusuf Keketoma Sandy, has said that the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has withheld the results of the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) on two grounds: exam malpractice and unfulfilled obligations by schools.

Sandy said that some students were caught with gadgets and colluded during the exams, while some schools have not fulfilled their financial obligations to WAEC.

Many students whose results were withheld are in a state of distress, especially those who took the exams in schools that have issues with WAEC. Some of these students are hoping that their results will be released so that they can at least study at a technical level.

The Deputy Minister also said that the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary School is working with WAEC to release the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results very soon.

The withholding of WASSCE results is a serious issue that affects the future of thousands of students. It is important for schools to fulfill their obligations to WAEC and for students to avoid exam malpractice.

The government should also work to ensure that all students have access to quality education, regardless of their financial background.
