The Republic of Sierra Leone and the Kyrgyz Republic have reaffirmed bilateral relations during a high-level engagement held Wednesday at the Sierra Leone Chancery in Riyadh, Riyadh.
Ulukbek Maripov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was received by Mohammed Barrie for a courtesy visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and multilateral diplomacy.
During the meeting, Ambassador Maripov formally presented the Kyrgyz Republic’s candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term. Elections for the seat are scheduled for June 2026 in New York.
He used the occasion to seek Sierra Leone’s support for the bid.
In response, Ambassador Barrie expressed appreciation for the engagement and reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s commitment to international cooperation. He assured that the request would be forwarded to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Freetown for formal consideration and executive review.
Discussions also covered areas of mutual interest, particularly cooperation within international forums aimed at strengthening global diplomacy.
Both sides described the engagement as reflective of mutual respect and a shared commitment to international stability and multilateral collaboration.
Officials confirmed that no commitment regarding Sierra Leone’s voting position was made at the conclusion of the meeting.
