The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security, has launched a nationwide data collection exercise aimed at strengthening workplace standards, assessing working conditions, and improving national labour statistics.
In a public notice, the Ministry confirmed that Labour, Occupational Health and Safety Inspectors have been deployed across the country to carry out the exercise, which runs from July 1 to July 31, 2026.
According to the Ministry, the initiative seeks to enhance labour administration, improve workplace safety, and generate accurate data to support future policy development.
Inspectors are currently visiting businesses and workplaces across various sectors to collect data on employment figures, working conditions, compliance with labour regulations, occupational safety and health practices, and social security registration status.
During the exercise, inspectors will also request relevant documentation, conduct brief interviews with employers and employees, and provide guidance on labour and safety requirements where necessary.
The Ministry has called on all employers and business owners to cooperate fully and provide accurate information to field officers.
It assured that all data collected will be treated as confidential and used solely for official purposes, including policy formulation, labour monitoring, and improving workplace safety standards.
