The Parliament of Sierra Leone on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, paid glowing tributes to the late Hon. Lucinda Finda Kellie, former Member of Parliament for Kono District, during an official lying-in-state ceremony held at the Parliament Building in Freetown.
Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, family members, and political associates gathered to honour the late legislator through tributes, wreath laying, and the signing of the Book of Condolence.
Director of the Parliamentary and Public Relations Department, Sheku Lamin Turay, who served as master of ceremonies, described the late Hon. Kellie as a distinguished parliamentarian and devoted Christian who represented Kono District with dedication and commitment. He noted that she served on several parliamentary committees and made valuable contributions during her tenure in Parliament.
Delivering a tribute on behalf of the leadership of government business, Deputy Majority Leader II, Hon. Saa Emerson Lamina, described the late former Kono MP as an illustrious daughter of Sierra Leone whose life embodied service, humility, and unwavering commitment to her people.
He said Hon. Kellie was a respected member of the All People’s Congress (APC) and followed the political footsteps of her father, who was among the early pioneers of the party. He further stated that she was widely admired for her warm personality, compassionate spirit, and dedication to mentoring and supporting young people.
Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, said the death of Hon. Kellie came as a profound shock and represented a significant loss to Parliament and the nation. He described her as a caring, compassionate, and selfless individual who consistently showed concern for the welfare of colleagues and friends.
According to Hon. Kargbo, the late parliamentarian remained supportive and encouraging even during difficult times, offering kindness and assistance whenever needed. He said her passing was a great loss to her family, the APC, Parliament, and Sierra Leone, adding that her legacy of friendship, compassion, and public service would continue to inspire many.
President of the Parliamentary Female Caucus, Hon. Bernadette Wuyatta Songa, described the deceased as a committed legislator who believed strongly in unity, faith in God, and service to humanity. She said Hon. Kellie inspired many women to pursue leadership and public service and left a lasting impact through her work in Parliament.
“As we mourn her departure, we pray for strength, comfort, and an end to the loss of valued members of our parliamentary family,” she stated.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Kumba Kellie Kaikai described her late sister as a prayer warrior and devoted mother who consistently prayed for and supported members of the family. She said the deceased touched many lives through her generosity, faith, and commitment to the well-being of others.
The ceremony concluded with the laying of wreaths and the signing of the Book of Condolence as Parliament paid its final respects to the late Hon. Lucinda Finda Kellie, whose contributions to Kono District and national development were widely acknowledged.
