A man identified as Ibrahim Kamara has been handed over to the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters after he was allegedly found in possession of 104 wraps of suspected Kush.
The suspect was apprehended during ongoing community anti-drug activities conducted by the Central Youths Organisation (C.Y.O.) in Koidu. Following his arrest, both the suspect and the suspected narcotic substances were immediately transferred to the Sierra Leone Police for investigation and possible legal action.
The Central Youths Organisation has been actively supporting efforts to curb the sale and consumption of illicit drugs in the district, particularly Kush and Tramadol, which authorities say continue to pose serious risks to young people and communities.
Police investigations into the matter are ongoing, and the suspect remains in custody at the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters.
Kush, a synthetic cannabinoid often mixed with substances like fentanyl and tramadol, has triggered a national emergency in Sierra Leone. The drug has been linked to thousands of deaths across West Africa, with Sierra Leone serving as the epicentre of the crisis. In 2024, President Julius Maada Bio declared a public health emergency on substance abuse, describing Kush as a “death trap posing an existential crisis”.
