Mayoral aspirant, Mohamed Gento Kamara, running on the ticket of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), has declared that he will start acting as the Mayor of Freetown on Monday, 12 June 2018.
He made this call in response to rumours of protest in Freetown and other parts of the country on Monday and Tuesday. He then called citizen to disregard those rumors and continue their daily activities.
During one of his campaign tours in Freetown City, Kamara addressed a gathering of SLPP supporters and emphasized the importance of remaining calm and peaceful. He assured them that adequate security measures would be in place at all times throughout the city.
“There are rumors circulating that certain individuals intend to disrupt the peace of our nation on Monday. I urge everyone to carry on with their regular routines. Rest assured, on Monday, I will begin acting as the Mayor of Freetown. The police will fulfill their duty of protecting us, and we, as civilians, will also remain vigilant to ensure a peaceful environment,” Kamara affirmed.
With the general election scheduled for June 24th, Kamara’s message aimed to alleviate concerns and promote a sense of tranquility among residents. By urging citizens to ignore unfounded rumors and maintain their daily lives, he emphasized the importance of stability and the role each individual plays in upholding peace within the city.
Kamara’s commitment to ensuring a secure environment resonated with his supporters, who expressed confidence in his ability to lead and maintain order as the potential mayor of Freetown.
In the same campaign gathering, President Julius Maada Bio also called on citizens to go about their normal businesses and assured them of his utmost protection.
“We are a peaceful party, and we are determined to have a peaceful election. Those planning to undermine the peace of our nation will be arrested, and the full force of the law will be brought upon them to ensure a peaceful electoral process,” President Bio stated firmly.
