The Mayor of Freetown, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has received her Waste Collection Identification (ID) and payment details for waste collection services through Smart City Services, as part of ongoing efforts to improve sanitation in the capital.

The initiative falls under the DortiMusGo campaign, through which the Freetown City Council (FCC) is working with approved service providers to strengthen waste management across the city. Over the past six months, more than 22,300 customers, including households, businesses, and institutions, have been registered across all eight waste collection blocks. Each registered property has been assigned a unique Waste Collection ID.

The FCC has completed two weeks of intensive community engagement and says outreach activities will continue in the coming week to ensure residents are fully informed and onboarded.

Under the soft enforcement phase of the 2024 Sanitation Byelaws, Waste Collection IDs are being distributed to registered properties via WhatsApp through FCC’s digital service provider, Smart City Services. Residents in Block 6 will access services through the Dorti Box app.

For residents outside Block 6, the process after receiving a Waste Collection ID includes verifying details, dialling 715123#, or downloading the Smart City app on Android devices, entering the ID, and completing payment. Once payment is confirmed, service providers will begin household waste collection.

The FCC is urging all residents to register with approved waste collectors and complete payments to support efficient service delivery and promote a cleaner, healthier Freetown.
