The Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has announced stringent new security measures at Freetown International Airport (FIA), Lungi, aimed at enhancing aviation security, combating child trafficking, and improving passenger experience. The directives, which take immediate effect, include strict access control and additional requirements for children traveling with non-biological parents.
According to the SLCAA, only children with valid travel arrangements will now be permitted to enter the airport premises through the main gate. In cases where children are traveling with adults other than their biological parents, the accompanying individuals must present proper authorization from relevant authorities, granting them permission to travel with the child.
These measures are part of the SLCAA’s ongoing efforts to ensure safety and reduce congestion at the airport. The management of FIA has been tasked with ensuring that these directives are communicated effectively to all relevant stakeholders.
The SLCAA has called on all stakeholders for their cooperation and support in implementing these critical measures, which are seen as a vital step towards enhancing aviation security in Sierra Leone.
