The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Madam Nabeela Farida Tunis, has announced that 2025 will be designated as the “Year of Ecotourism,” marking the conclusion of the successful “Tourism for All” campaign in 2024.
In her end-of-year message, Minister Tunis expressed gratitude for the accomplishments of the 2024 campaign, stating, “This campaign has reminded us that tourism is not just an industry, but a force for unity, empowerment, and growth.”
The “Tourism for All” campaign included several key initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive and sustainable tourism. The campaign focused on various themes each month, exploring important facets of tourism, peace, and inclusivity.
Notable efforts include the restoration of historical monuments to preserve cultural heritage, as well as a dedicated initiative to celebrate women’s contributions to the tourism sector. Furthermore, the campaign emphasizes wildlife and heritage conservation through partnerships aimed at protecting natural resources.
Community engagement was a top priority, as the campaign involved every district in promoting inclusive tourism development.
Lastly, an awards initiative was introduced to recognize and reward outstanding contributions within the tourism industry.
Minister Tunis emphasized that the “Tourism for All” campaign has successfully raised awareness of Sierra Leone’s diverse tourism offerings and strengthened collaborations within the industry. She encouraged continued investment in people, landscapes, and culture, highlighting the significant role of tourism in nation-building.
