The Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning in a public notice has warned individuals against unauthorized construction within the Bo and Kenema Airfields.

According to the Ministry, it has come to its notice that certain individuals claiming parcels of lands at the Bo and Kenema airfields have embarked on unauthorized construction within these airfields.

The Ministry stated that these airfields are the properties of the government of Sierra Leone and cannot be sold by any private individual.

“The public is hereby informed that following a long consultative process with all stakeholders and local leaders including the Paramount Chiefs, payments were made for all outstanding lease rents and subsequently absolute purchase from the land holding families for the reservations and airfields at Bo, Kenema and Magburaka.”

The Ministry advised members of the public to cease from transacting with any person claiming to be owning lands within these airfields, adding that all unauthorized construction within the airfield will be strongly reversed with penalties.

It was disclosed that the government will also embark on demolition of illegal structures at the air strip in Kenema.
