The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and its agencies have extended their regular beach cleaning exercise to Levuma Beach as part of their ongoing commitment to maintaining clean and welcoming coastal communities for both local and international tourists.
This initiative is in line with the Ministry’s 2025 Year of Ecotourism campaign, which seeks to promote Sierra Leone’s natural heritage.
Additionally, the cleaning exercise was a collaborative effort, with strong support from various groups, including the National Protected Agency Authority (NPAA), local councilor, youths of the community and bar and restaurant owners, all joining forces with the Ministry in this important cause.
Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Nabeela Farida Tunis, and her team also addressed issues related to substandard structures, poor hygiene, and sand mining on the beach.
“We urged community members to adopt eco-conscious practices to safeguard the environment and preserve the country’s tourism assets. Our Ministry is committed to working closely with local communities to implement sustainable measures and enhance ecotourism in the region.”she added.
The Ministry has promised to take action to ensure better management of the area moving forward. Through this initiative, the Ministry and its agencies are working together to create a cleaner, safer, and more attractive coastal environment for everyone.
