The Director of Trade at the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Emmanuel Konjoh has assured Sierra Leoneans that, there will be no scarcity of commodities during the holy month of Ramadan.
This came about with some speculations that, the prices of certain commodities being sugar, mill flour and other related items will experience change in price which may cause suffering for sierra Leoneans especially the Muslim community who are observing the fasting period.
He said these commodities are readily available in stocks as the government was willing to lose over eighteen million new Leones to duty waivers for these commodities so that sierra Leoneans would not suffer to afford them, stressing that, the ministry has recruited more trade monitors who have got the mandate to bring to book those that will contravene the rules at selling commodities at higher price than required.
‘’Profiteering and hoarding are crimes business people can be charged for before a court of law’’. He maintained.
The government had introduced zero duty policy for essential commodities such as rice, sugar and flour to reach the people and called on all business men and women to cooperate with the ministry for a better work delivery.
