The Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Milton Margai Technical University, Dr Philip John Kanu has been exonerated by the university’s court from accusations levied against him which got him suspended.
The said exoneration took place yesterday the 6th December, 2022 after which the Vice Chancellor, Dr Victor Kabbia, announced the news in the midst of the Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Staffs and students of the University at the university’s general meeting.
Speaking on the reason for his reinstatement, VC Kabbia disclosed that Dr Kanu has great qualities that alligns with the University’s Act of 2021 which makes one to be eligible for the DVC position. Part of the qualities he made mention of is his ability to manage and generate revenue for the University.
Aside from that, VC Kabbia stated that he is indeed needed in the University as 29 out of 33 members of the court voted for his reinstatement, therefore he was exonerated from his offence and reistated to continue his good work.
Dr Kanu was few months ago suspended by the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education over an audio of him giving tribal and hate speech.
However on his part, he denied the said accusations and stated that the said audio was manipulated.
” I did not say those words but because of the discomfort it has created, I am sorry.” He stated.
Dr Kanu added that he has the University at heart and will not do anything of a sort. He apologized on behalf of the other lecturers and stated that he has come with a clean heart and that he is ready to work and for that he needs all lecturers onboard.
The Minister of Technical and Higher Education, professor Alpha Tejan Wurie spoke against the issue of tribal hate and stated that they should forget about their different colors and try to do what is most important which is for the University to perform well.
He added that a University must have a VC and a DVC and as such, after thorough screening by the Tertiary Education Commission(TEC), Dr Kanu is the right person for the DVC position at MMTU.
