Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh, has been elected Chairman of the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Committee, marking a significant milestone for Sierra Leone on the global stage.

The Commonwealth Foundation Grants Committee is pivotal in promoting participatory governance across the 56-member bloc.

The committee manages the allocation of grants to civil society organizations (CSOs), fostering initiatives that enable citizens to influence decision-making processes and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In his new role as Chairman, Dr. Manyeh will lead a team of representatives from Commonwealth nations and civil society experts.

Together, they will oversee the equitable distribution of funds to projects that champion inclusion, transparency, and accountability. Special focus will be given to programs targeting marginalized groups, including women, youth, and individuals with disabilities.

The committee’s evaluation process will prioritize proposals that demonstrate innovation, alignment with the Foundation’s mission, and potential for long-term impact.

Funded organizations must showcase their ability to implement sustainable and relevant projects that contribute to community development and good governance.

Dr. Manyeh’s election reflects Sierra Leone’s increasing influence in international development under the leadership of President Julius Maada Bio.

His extensive expertise in governance and diplomacy positions him to effectively steer the committee’s efforts in empowering civil society organizations and strengthening participatory governance across the Commonwealth.
