The National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) officially hosted the World Bank Implementation Support Mission (ISM) for the Productive Social Safety Net and Youth Employment (PSSNYE) project on Monday, December 2, 2024. The mission, led by Senior Social Protection Specialist Abu Kargbo and Senior Economist Samik Adhikari, marks the beginning of the Bank’s ongoing support and oversight of the PSSNYE project.

The mission’s primary objectives are to assess the progress of the project’s implementation, initiate a mid-term review, and evaluate activities related to digital payments and food security targeting. During the visit, the team will also analyze the project’s broader impact on Sierra Leone’s social protection landscape.

In his welcome address, NaCSA Commissioner Ambassador Ernest Mbaimba Ndomahina reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to meeting the project’s development goals. He highlighted NaCSA’s recent rebranding efforts, which are designed to accelerate the country’s Feed Salone Agenda, a key aspect of Sierra Leone’s development framework. “On behalf of His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio, I welcome you to Sierra Leone and express our gratitude for your continued technical and financial support,” Ndomahina said.

To honor the World Bank mission team, the Commissioner and his deputy presented a traditional symbol of respect, showcasing Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage.

Abu Kargbo, in his response, praised the success of a previous social safety net initiative that supported 1.5 million Sierra Leoneans. He commended NaCSA’s leadership and its commitment to the continued success of the PSSNYE project.

The World Bank mission will remain in Sierra Leone from December 3 to 10, 2024, as they conduct further assessments and provide support for the ongoing implementation of the PSSNYE project.
