The Central University, Sierra Leone (CUSL) in Mile 91 is currently taking part at the ongoing National Annual Celebration of Education Week. The one-week showcase is organized by Sierra Leone’s Basic and Higher Education Ministries in collaboration with partners and is geared towards bringing together Higher Educational Institutions (HEIS) in Sierra Leone to showcase their various programmes and services to the general public, including foreign nationals.

This year’s celebration is graced by Central University, Sierra Leone, University of Sierra Leone, Eastern Technical University, Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Milton Margai Technical University and the Freetown Polytechnic.

Known for its sophistication in the fields of Information Technology, Mass Communication, Agriculture and Public Health to name, but a few, the Central University Team is fully represented by a cross section of Staff and Students who are on the ground to display all of what the university offers.

Director of Students’ Affairs at Central University, Zoe Amieli Cooper said that CUSL is at the National Celebration of Education week to exhibit the university’s achievements over the past year and to also inform the general public on the courses available to study. ‘’We have brought with us apps developed and demonstrations from the Computer Science and Business Information Technology departments, Agricultural produce grown by the Agriculture department, and documentaries, interviews, and news pieces created by the Mass Communication department. The exhibition is also a great opportunity to inform the general public about our change of name from the then Canadian Canadian University of Modern Technology to now, Central University,’’ she said.

Head of the Mass Communication Department at Central University, Sulaiman Mansaray disclosed that the Annual Celebration of Education Week is a greater opportunity for the university to sell itself, noting that the positives of the campus, its environments and courses are not shrouded in secrecy. He added that a positive advantage which the university offers is its ability to match theories and practicalities much to the admiration of all and sundry. He said that a justification of same is the presence of students and staff from the university at the event which is taking place just outside the Miatta Conference Centre at Youyi Building in Freetown.

On his impression about the University, Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Sarjoh Aziz Kamara, lavished commendations on Central University’s unflinching drive in promoting Modern Technological Education and Transformation in Sierra Leone. He said that since its inception, CUSL has tremendously provided unmitigated access to improved modern education for all and sundry in the country and called on the leadership and management of the university to maintain such laudable trajectories.

On her visit to the CUSL’s booth, the Director of Planning and Research at the Higher Education Ministry, Sia Fasulluku, expressed utmost delight for CUSL’s participation in this year’s celebration even after a short notice to the commencement of the event. She further thanked the Chancellor and the University Administration for the kind gesture and promptness in making this year’s celebration a success.

Also, at the showcase on behalf of Central University are; Osman Kanu, Computer Science Lecturer at CUSL, President Elect for the Central University Students’ Union, Mohamed Chernor Kamara who is a final year Mass Communication Student and a host of other students from various other departments. Head of Computer Science and BIT departments, Isaac M. Sesay and CUSL’S Human Resources Director, Safuan Muckson Sesay were also present during the opening stages of the Celebration of Education Week. The team is expected to return to Mile 91 when the celebration and showcase would have ended on Friday December 9th, 2022.
