The National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA) has issued an update on the second day of search and rescue operations following the collapse of a seven-storey building at Shell New Road, Freetown.

The latest figures reveal a tragic increase in the death toll. The confirmed fatalities now stand at nine, comprising two adult males, three adult females, and four young children (two girls and two boys), all under the age of five.

Among the survivors, a total of seven individuals have been accounted for. Five are receiving medical treatment at Rokupa Hospital, while two have been transferred to Choithram Hospital for advanced care.

The status of additional trapped victims remains uncertain, with ongoing efforts to locate and rescue anyone still beneath the rubble. The NDMA, in collaboration with various partners, continues to prioritize the search and rescue operations with unwavering dedication.

The Agency has extended its gratitude to the Gento Group of Companies and JP Logistics for their crucial support. The provision of machinery and fuel by these organizations has significantly enhanced the rescue operations.
