On Saturday, the first day of the nationwide 2022-Voters Registration, Mr. Solomon Sondai, the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) District Elections Manager in Bombali explained the process of the two registration phases for this year’s registration exercise.

He was responding to interview questions from Awoko Newspaper at the commission’s office located on Azzolini highway in Makeni, the regional headquarters town of the north eastern region, and revealed that there has been no addition or reduction in the existing registration centers.

“Of the 241 existing centers no center has been axed or added for the 2022 Voters Registration, what we have done as a commission is to divide the 241 centers into two for both phases of this year’s voters’ registration. Currently, there are 121 registration centers up and running until 17th September while the remaining 120 centers will also be functional through the second phase which will also last for 14 days starting on September 20th to October 4th”, he added.

Re-echoing that “all centers in the district that are not open in the first phase will be opened in the second phase, so if a center near your area is not open, it’s preferable that you wait to be registered in the phase two because you will be entitled to vote only at the center you have registered.

“This is why the 421 centers staff have been assigned across the 121 centers for this phase and for every registration center. In the District there are four staff attached to do the work because they are trusted having proved to be the best, hence they were sorted among the pool of applicants.

“All the ECSL staff in Bombali District were equally trained like others nationwide, and before they were contracted for this phase they have all committed to offer their best at their respective centers, so it’s safe to say as a commission we are 99.9% sure that this year’s registration will be the best,” he maintained.

He conclusively appealed to eligible persons in the northeastern district to step up and register at the nearest center in their communities.
