The National Revenue Authority (NRA), through its Public Affairs and tax education Unit, has launched an Investigation into the Alleged Unauthorized Clearing of Containers at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay.
The Announcement was made through a press release dated 10th October 2025.
According to the NRA, it has come to the attention of the Commissioner-General that an alleged fraudulent practice has been discovered, which involves the clearing of containers from the ports at Cline Town without going through the due process and payment of the relevant duties and taxes. This information is currently making the rounds in social and other media.
Furthermore, the Commissioner-General informed that the Authority has also commenced investigation on this allegation and will further collaborate with all stakeholders including the Sierra Leone Police, the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbour Authority and the Anti-Corruption Commission among others to ascertain the substance of this allegation for prompt action including the full recovery of any revenue loss with interest and penalty and criminal proceedings will be instituted against any such persons and/or parties that will be found wanting.
Commissioner Jeneba Bangura further assured the public that the National Revenue Authority remains committed to generating the much-needed revenue that the government needs to carry out its mandate with integrity, due care, and professionalism consistent with the laws of Sierra Leone.
“Any party or person that is involved in fraudulent practices with the view to undermining the operations of the Authority will face the full force of the law, and the public will be informed accordingly.
“We continue to advise the public to refrain from any illegal practices that will jeopardize their business activities and that all dealings with the Authority must be done through the authorized channel prescribed by law to avoid financial loss and other consequences.” Commissioner Bangura stated.
