– A total of thirteen (13) personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), comprising ten (10) males and three (3) females, are scheduled for deployment to the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on 28 and 30 March 2026.
The officers will join other international peacekeepers to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace, security, and stability in South Sudan under the UN mandate.
On Friday, 27 March 2026, the team received a formal briefing from Inspector General of Police (IGP) William Fayia Sellu. In his address, IGP Sellu urged the officers to demonstrate professionalism, discipline, and integrity throughout their mission.
He emphasised that the officers would not only represent the Sierra Leone Police but also the nation as a whole. IGP Sellu reminded them of the commendable track record of previous Sierra Leonean peacekeepers, who have consistently upheld the country’s reputation and proudly flown the green, white, and blue flag.
He further encouraged the contingent to build on this legacy by exhibiting exemplary conduct and fostering positive relationships with colleagues from other nations, as well as with the local population in South Sudan.
The deployment is part of Sierra Leone’s continued contribution to global peacekeeping efforts and reinforces the country’s commitment to international peace and security.
