Orange Sierra Leone in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), on Monday 30th January hosted its first Tech and Innovation Cocktail event in Honour of Huge Herr, Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Medi Lab and Co-Lead of Yang Center for Bionics at MIT.

The event brought together senior government officials from various Ministries
Department and Agencies as well as partners of the innovative ecosystem in Sierra
Leone.

Main highlight of the event was a demonstration of diverse digital innovations by students of the Orange Digital Centre including the Prostheses designs and beneficiaries of same.

Huge Herr is a Professor of Media Arts and Sciences at the MIT Medi Lab and Co Lead of Yang Center for Bionics. He is the author and co-author of over 200 peer reviewed manuscripts and patents, chronicling the science and technology behind his many innovations such as active Leg Exoskeletons, Powered Ankle-Foot
Prostheses, and neural interfacing technologies.

Professor Herr has created bionic limbs that emulate the function of natural limb.
Time Magazine in 2007 named Professor Herr as the “Leader of the Bionic Age” due to his revolutionary work in the emerging field of Biomechatronics . Hugh is a double amputee himself, he is responsible for breakthrough advances in bionic limbs that provide greater mobility and new hope to those with physical disabilities

David Moinina Sengeh is also a biomechatronics engineer and the current Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education and Chief Innovation Officer in the office of the president has been working closing with the Orange foundation to support its digital transformation projects.
