Orange Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MoCTI), on Friday officially turned the sod for the construction of the Orange Village at Felei-Tech City in Tikonko Village, Bo District, marking the start of a major community development initiative aimed at improving access to education, healthcare and technology.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the Minister of Communication, Technology and Innovation, Salima Bah; the Chief Executive Officer of Orange Sierra Leone, Aicha Touré; the Chief Executive Officer of Felei-Tech City, David Manley; the Director of Orange Foundation, Annie Wonnie-Katta; as well as other government officials, traditional leaders and community representatives.
According to Orange Foundation, the Orange Village project is designed to bring critical social infrastructure to the community, including the construction of a school and a hospital.
The initiative is expected to expand access to quality education and healthcare services while supporting technological advancement for residents of Tikonko Village and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the ceremony, representatives of Orange Foundation and its partners highlighted the importance of investing in sustainable community development and creating opportunities that can positively impact future generations.
The project forms part of Orange Foundation’s broader commitment to empowering communities across Sierra Leone through investments in education, digital inclusion, healthcare and social development.
As part of activities marking the event, Orange Foundation also donated educational materials to pupils from nearby schools. The donation is intended to support learning and provide students with essential resources to enhance their educational experience.
Officials noted that the Orange Village initiative goes beyond the construction of physical infrastructure and reflects a shared vision of promoting opportunity, innovation and long-term community growth.
The groundbreaking ceremony signifies the beginning of what stakeholders described as a transformative development project that will contribute to improving the lives of residents in Bo District and help strengthen access to essential services for generations to come.
