The Parliament of Sierra Leone has given its approval to Jeneba Kpaka Bangura as the Commissioner-General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA).

Jeneba Kpaka Bangura, commonly known as Mrs. Bangura, is a well-known figure in the country’s tax administration and system. Her journey within the NRA includes serving as Deputy Commissioner General from November 2018 to July 2023, during which she played a pivotal role in overseeing the transition from manual processes to comprehensive digitalization programs.

Mrs. Bangura brings over 25 years of expertise in public and financial policy, as well as accounting in government, private, and non-profit sectors. Holding the title of Certified Public Accountant and possessing a master’s degree in public administration, she has established herself as an astute financial management expert.

Prior to assuming the role of Commissioner General, Mrs. Kpaka Bangura served as Deputy Minister of Finance 1 at the Ministry of Finance for the past five months. As a seasoned tax administrator, she is an active member of the African Tax Administration Forum (ATAF) Women Tax Network (AWTIN) and was recently elected as the Vice-Chair for the AWTIN Board.

Notably, Mrs. Kpaka Bangura is the second woman to hold the position of Commissioner General, following in the footsteps of Haja Kallah Kamara, who held the position from 2009 to 2018. Drawing on her extensive experience in Sierra Leone’s Tax Administration, Public Finance, and Accounting, coupled with her tenure at the State Comptroller’s Office of New York and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority—arguably the largest public transportation system in North America—Mrs. Jeneba Kpaka Bangura is poised to bring transformative change to the NRA.

During her parliamentary approval session, lawmakers urged the new Commissioner General to enhance revenue generation efforts and implement professional standards in the country’s tax administration. With her wealth of experience, Mrs. Kpaka Bangura is set to lead the NRA into a new era of efficiency and effectiveness.
