The Ninth Report of the Committee on Appointments and Public Service, chaired by the Majority Leader of Government Business, Mathew Sahr Nyuma, has approved six presidential nominees.

The approved nominees include Dr Falla Dominic Lamin, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission; Madam Constance Agnes Sallay Sama, Commissioner for the Southern Region, Local Government Service Commission; and Madam Esther Bofoe Baryoh, Commissioner for the Eastern Region, Local Government Service Commission.

Others are Ms Edleen Elba, Chairperson of the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education (NCTVE); Ms Edna Fatmata Koroma, Commissioner for the Northern Region, Local Government Service Commission; and Mr Isaac Ken Green, Director General of the Sierra Leone Public Transport Authority.

Presenting the report to the plenary, the Acting Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, Bashiru Silikie, said the nominees were interviewed at Committee Room One of Parliament in Freetown.

He stated that the interviews were conducted under oath and focused on the nominees’ experience, professional records, tax compliance, asset declarations, and vision for public service delivery.

Hon. Silikie added that the Committee also considered other relevant eligibility requirements and that the report reflected the unanimous decision of members.

Seconding the motion, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay expressed appreciation to President Julius Maada Bio for the nominations.

During the debate, the Leader of Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, expressed support for the nomination of Dr Lamin, describing him as competent and committed to national development. He also urged improved funding and timely disbursement of resources to government agencies to enhance service delivery.

Concluding the debate, Hon. Silikie thanked the President for the nominations and urged the appointees to demonstrate professionalism and teamwork in national development. He also emphasized the importance of parliamentary oversight in strengthening governance and accountability.
