On Monday, July 29, 2024, the Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Lunsar Police Division initiated a raid in the Mange Akan community following intelligence reports regarding the cultivation of cannabis.
The operation was led by Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Fayiah David Joshua, who coordinated a team consisting of police personnel and members of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) to locate and dismantle the cannabis sativa farm.
Upon their arrival, the team uncovered a significant cannabis sativa farm, featuring both mature plants and those in the nursery stage.
In collaboration with community stakeholders, law enforcement officers arrested two suspects, Abdul Bangura, commonly known as “Kambia,” and Yusuf Fornah, who are believed to be responsible for the cultivation of the illicit drug.
Both suspects and the seized cannabis plants are currently in police custody for further investigation.
Instead of engaging in productive rice farming which could be beneficial to them and their families, some people prefer to engage themselves in cannabis farming. Such people are always the first to cry foul that ‘the ground dry or the country tranga.’
They expect the government to spoon feed them.
