Four officers of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) from the Southern Province are facing dismissal following serious allegations linking them to a series of robberies.

The Complaints, Discipline, and Internal Investigations Department (CDIID) launched an investigation, culminating in a tribunal held at the Regional Police Headquarters in Bo City on September 4th and 5th, 2024.

The officers implicated—Constables 16445 Saidu Sonny Lahai, 21015 Rodney Massaquoi (alias Junior), 22034 Richard Yambasu (alias Alphantic), and 22667 Patrick Rogers (alias Bgor Borbor)—are accused of collaborating with criminals in robberies that took place across Taiama, Rutile, and Bo City, affecting communities in the Imperi and Kakua Chiefdoms of Moyamba and Bo Judicial Districts between July and August 2024.

The tribunal, presided over by Inspector Ibrahim Bah, recommended their dismissal, pending final approval from the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu. These officers, primarily from the Operational Support Division (OSD), with one from General Duty, allegedly abused their positions to assist criminal operations. Their police uniforms and equipment were confiscated while they await the final decision.

One of the most severe accusations involves Constable Richard Yambasu (alias Alphantic), who reportedly provided his police-issued rifle to criminals for use in violent robberies. Constable Rodney Massaquoi (alias Junior) allegedly led a group that robbed Pa Senesie Kemokai, a disabled man, stealing two sheep and $900 in Fairo, Sorogbeima Chiefdom, Pujehun District.

Additionally, Constable Saidu Sonny Lahai is accused of knowing about the murder of Hassan Lamin, a former bike mechanic from Bo City, while Constable Patrick Rogers, a driver for the Bo East Division, is suspected of maintaining communication with robbers during their operations.

Inspector Gbessay Kolleh Kamara, CDIID Admin Officer, presented the findings during the tribunal, and Superintendent Bangura, CDIID Regional Coordinator for the Southern Region, read out the officers’ antecedents. The hearing, which was open to the public and media, was conducted to ensure transparency in the proceedings.

This disciplinary measure is part of the Sierra Leone Police Force’s broader effort to uphold integrity and restore public trust. In addition to their pending dismissals, the officers are subject to a criminal investigation by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Bo City.
