Police personnel stationed at the Mile 38 Checkpoint in Port Loko District have successfully recovered a vehicle that had allegedly been taken by a suspect who disappeared with it more than three weeks ago.

The recovery followed a complaint lodged on 24 June 2026 by Osman Amadu Bangura of Roparth, Koya Chiefdom, who reported that a man identified as Gbassay, popularly known as “Phone Call,” had absconded with his vehicle after it had been entrusted to him for commercial purposes.

According to the complainant, the suspect failed to return the vehicle and remained unreachable for over 23 days, raising concerns that the vehicle had been unlawfully taken.

Upon receiving the report, Superintendent Foday Sorie Fofanah, Officer Commanding the Mile 38 Checkpoint, immediately directed his personnel to commence a search operation. The prompt intervention by security officers led to the interception and recovery of the vehicle at the checkpoint.

Following the recovery, Superintendent Fofanah contacted the owner and requested documentary evidence to establish ownership of the vehicle. On 25 June 2026, Mr. Bangura produced the relevant documents, which confirmed that he was the lawful owner.

Speaking after the recovery, Mr. Bangura expressed appreciation to Superintendent Fofanah and the security personnel at the Mile 38 Checkpoint for their vigilance, professionalism and swift response, which led to the successful recovery of the vehicle.

Police investigations into the alleged theft and the whereabouts of the suspect are continuing.
