The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) Medical Services Department held a one-day training workshop for Community Health Officers (CHOs) and Community Health Assistants (CHAs) from SLP hospitals nationwide on Thursday, 23 January 2026.
The event took place at the Sierra Leone Police Hospital in Kingtom.
The workshop focused on critical medical topics, including shock and accidents; diabetes (DKA) and electrolyte imbalance; severe hypertension and stroke; burns, poisoning, drug overdose and addiction; Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) reactive cases; and status asthmaticus.

Speaking on the purpose of the training, Deputy Director and Medical Superintendent, Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh, explained that the workshop aligns with the Medical Services Department’s 2026 theme: “Knowledge Sharing and Ownership.” He noted that gaps had been identified in the procedures followed by CHOs and CHAs in patient management across SLP hospitals, and the training aims to address these gaps while promoting a unified, standardized approach to service delivery.

Director of Medical Services, Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim Jalloh, emphasized that the training would help clinicians adopt consistent protocols and standards in managing frequently reported ailments, taking into account the institution’s limited resources. He also encouraged participants to embrace continuous professional development and actively engage during the workshop to enhance healthcare delivery within the Sierra Leone Police.
