Sierra Leone’s President, Dr Julius Maada Bio has reinforced his administration’s commitment to delivering transformative infrastructure, leading a high-level inspection of the ongoing construction of the ECOWAS International Conference Centre in Lungi.
The President’s visit, accompanied by senior government officials and development partners, highlights his hands-on approach to ensuring the timely execution of flagship national projects under the Government’s development agenda.
Touring the site alongside the Chief Minister, Minister of Information, and key representatives from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), President Bio received detailed briefings from engineers and project managers on construction progress, timelines, and the scale of the facility.
The project, once completed, is expected to position Sierra Leone as a preferred destination for major regional and international gatherings, including ECOWAS Heads of State summits.
Addressing stakeholders during the visit, President Bio underscored the strategic importance of the initiative, framing it as a cornerstone of Sierra Leone’s global ambitions.
“This is about shaping Sierra Leone’s future and asserting our place within the region and beyond,” the President said. “We are investing in infrastructure that reflects our vision to attract investment, promote dialogue, and elevate our national profile.”
He commended the collaboration between contractors, government agencies, and development partners, noting that the steady progress reflects a shared commitment to national development.
The ECOWAS International Conference Centre is also expected to stimulate economic activity through job creation, increased tourism, and enhanced business opportunities, while leveraging the proximity of the upgraded international airport in Lungi.
President Bio’s visit signals continued political will at the highest level to drive forward critical infrastructure projects, particularly those aligned with the Big Five Agenda, where regional integration and economic transformation remain central pillars.
