President Dr. Julius Maada Bio presided over the swearing-in ceremony of Mr. Alpha Sesay, Esq., as the newly appointed Attorney-General and Minister of Justice at State House today.

The event underscored the government’s commitment to advancing the justice sector in Sierra Leone.

The ceremony began with a declaration of purpose by the Secretary to the President, Dr. Emmanuel Gaima, who referenced Sections 64(1) and (2) of the 1991 Constitution, which establishes the office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice. He noted that the ceremony, in accordance with constitutional provisions, was held under the President’s auspices.

In his remarks, Mr. Sesay expressed deep gratitude to President Bio for entrusting him with the role. Reflecting on his extensive legal career, which includes advocacy for human rights across Sierra Leone’s districts, Mr. Sesay committed to advancing the President’s vision of a people-centered justice system.

President Bio congratulated Mr. Sesay and praised the outgoing Attorney-General for their service. He also emphasized the critical nature of the role, urging Mr. Sesay to draw on the expertise of the legal community to navigate the challenges ahead.

The President reminded Mr. Sesay of his responsibility to provide sound legal counsel to the government, stressing the importance of timely justice in maintaining national stability and peace. He further reassured the new Attorney-General that his administration would respect the independence of the justice sector, emphasizing that any directives would never come from his office.

President Bio concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to strengthening the justice system to ensure fairness and accessibility for all Sierra Leoneans.
