The Minister of Public Administration and Political Affairs, Amara Kallon, recently presented the state of public sector reform to a visiting Commonwealth delegation in Sierra Leone.

In a meeting attended by key government officials, including the Cabinet Secretary, the Head of Civil Service, and the Chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), Minister Kallon underscored the importance of Sierra Leone’s Commonwealth membership, describing it as a strategic relationship with roots in colonial history.

The Commonwealth Advisor on Public Administration, Hon. Dustane Mania, is in Sierra Leone for a scoping mission aimed at enhancing performance management and service delivery within the Office of the Chief Minister.

During the meeting, he articulated his objectives, which include identifying gaps and potential opportunities to support President Julius Maada Bio’s ongoing public sector reform initiatives, particularly concerning the Medium Term National Development (MTND) strategy.

Minister Kallon welcomed the delegation and emphasized the government’s commitment to improving public administration in Sierra Leone.

He noted that effective public sector reform is crucial for enhancing governance and service delivery, which ultimately contributes to national development.

Kallon also highlighted the collaborative efforts among various ministries and agencies to achieve these reform objectives.

The meeting featured presentations from various technical staff from the Ministry of Political Affairs and Public Administration, who provided insights into the current state of public and civil services in the country.

These presentations outlined both the achievements and challenges faced in implementing effective reforms.

Hon. Dustane Mania expressed his appreciation for the information shared during the discussions and reaffirmed the Commonwealth’s commitment to assisting Sierra Leone in addressing its public sector challenges.

He stressed that strengthening governance and public service delivery is essential for building a more prosperous and equitable society.

As the meeting concluded, Minister Kallon reiterated the need for continuous dialogue and partnership with international bodies like the Commonwealth to ensure the successful implementation of public sector reforms that will benefit all Sierra Leoneans.
