The Pujehun District Council, with funding from the World Bank through the Ministry of Finance, is set to implement major healthcare infrastructure improvements under the Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery Project (AGBSDP).

The initiative will focus on the rehabilitation and expansion of two key Peripheral Health Units (PHUs) in the district, aimed at improving healthcare services in the region.

The projects will benefit the Bengani PHU in Mano Sakrim Chiefdom and the Massam PHU in Kpaka Chiefdom. Key developments include facility upgrades, staff housing reconstruction, well rehabilitation, and the installation of solar power systems. Additionally, environmental and social safety measures will be implemented, along with the provision of essential furniture.

A public bid opening for the project took place on September 17, 2024, at the Pujehun District Council’s mini-conference room. Chaired by the Chief Administrator, the session was attended by representatives from the Project Management Unit (PMU), National Public Procurement Authority (NPPA), Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and the media. Out of nine bidders, eight successfully submitted bids, while one was disqualified for late submission.

The NPPA representative stressed the importance of strict adherence to procurement guidelines, while the ACC emphasized integrity and transparency in the bidding process. The District Medical Officer expressed gratitude for the funding, noting that the improved infrastructure will enhance healthcare delivery in the region.

The project highlights the government’s commitment to improving basic healthcare services in rural communities.
