The Rokel Commercial Bank (RCBank) has donated food items to both Muslims and Christians in Freetown as a way of strengthening its commitment to its social responsibility. The gesture, made earlier today in Central Freetown, comes as both faith groups mark the Holy Ramadan and Lent seasons.
The donations were made to residents of ‘Government Wharf’ and the adjacent districts, marking the bank’s latest big attempt to give back to the community. This project shows RCBank’s commitment to not only servicing its clients but also promoting the well-being of the community as a whole in which it operates.
As the afternoon sun began to set, Government Wharf residents gathered anxiously to meet executives from Rokel Commercial Bank, headed by Mariama Francess Jajua, Head of Marketing. Jajua described the reason for the bank’s donation, saying, “We are here because, we always believe in giving back to society. These donations, we believe will continue to cement the bond between us a bank and you the people in our community…”
The Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank, Dr. Walton Ekundayo Gilpin, talked about the bank’s broader mission.
“At RCBank, we believe people are the backbone to our existence, that is why we have always adopted policies that maintain a fair balance between meeting our profit making goals, the environment and the general wellbeing of our people.” He said.
Chairman Baimba, a long-time stakeholder, praised Rokel Commercial Bank’s transformation under its current leadership, emphasizing the bank’s important function in promoting financial inclusion and literacy in Sierra Leone.
“On behalf myself and my community, we thank the Rokel Commercial Bank for this kind gesture” he said.
