Students at the Chemistry Department of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone have received over 200 customized laboratory coats, worth thousands of Leones from the Rokel Commercial Bank.
The gesture, according to the department’s leadership would significantly enhance students’ practical training as the RCBank/FBC branded lab apparels would not only restore the pride and confidence of aspiring chemists from Sub-Sahara Africa’s oldest university but would also imbibe a culture of ethics and professionalism in students.
Emphasizing the need to compliment government’s human capital development efforts, Rokel Commercial Bank Managing Director, Dr Walton Ekundayo described science education as the bedrock for human advancement and global development. He encouraged the Chemistry students to remain focused and take advantage of available opportunities to achieve their goals.
“Today we see in you the ability to invent or create something for the global good…the potential to rise up beyond Sierra Leone and become scientists out there….most importantly, we want you to become global contributors on the field of science” he said.
A student in the Chemistry Department expressed gratitude to Rokel Commercial Bank, describing the beautifully branded lab coats as a greater motivation in their pursuit to become excellent professionals.
The latest gesture by the Rokel Commercial Bank can only continue to burnish it credentials as a leader for corporate social responsibility adherence in Sierra Leone.
every student was required to purchase their own lab coat, and entry into the lab was strictly prohibited without one. Let’s ensure transparency in communication.
Apparently, ‘donations’ now mean spending our own money! Lab coats were generously provided… by our wallets. No coat, no entry no free gifts either! Transparency is key, my people!
And they are selling these lab coats to student for the sum of 300 new Leones.
These coat were given to you for student to use and not for you guys,so because student are required to wear coat before entering the lab they should pay for them even when your penny isn’t there in acquiring these coat.It a criminal way of extorting money from students.
