Sierra Leone’s Minister for Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, met with representatives from EduNations Sierra Leone and the US on June 6th, 2024, to discuss strengthening their partnership in education.
Minister Sackey emphasized the importance of close collaboration between EduNations and the government to achieve shared goals. Both parties explored ways to improve teacher training, support, and potentially even salary structures. Strategies for raising the overall quality of education in Sierra Leone were a central topic. Expanding access to education, particularly in underserved areas, was a key point of discussion.
Minister Sackey expressed his appreciation for EduNations’ contributions to Sierra Leone’s education system. He highlighted their schools’ strong performance in northern regions and requested knowledge-sharing between EduNations and government schools.
He also encouraged the US team to attract more Peace Corps volunteers to support education efforts in Sierra Leone.
“I acknowledged and recognised that EduNations’ schools are among the best performers in the northern regions of Sierra Leone. I took the opportunity to request knowledge-sharing between the EduNations’ school leaders and those in government and government assisted schools in their catchment areas. I further used this engagement to encourage the US team members to serve as ambassadors and recruit more Peace Corps volunteers to Sierra Leone” he stated.
EduNations Inc., a US-based NGO, provides free, high-quality education to underprivileged children in northern Sierra Leone. They currently operate 15 schools across six communities, serving over 3,700 students.
To ensure a conducive learning environment, EduNations employs 112 teachers and provides free learning materials and uniforms for all students. Their dedication to quality education plays a vital role in shaping the future of Sierra Leone’s young generation.
