The Sierra Leone Water Company (SALWACO) has officially transitioned its leadership with the appointment of Joe Jonathan Ndanema as the new Board Chairman, succeeding Alhaji Ing. Mohamed Alie Jalloh.
The handover ceremony, held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at the SALWACO Boardroom, marked a pivotal moment for the organization as it advances its mandate of providing safe and reliable water services nationwide.
Deputy Managing Director Dr. Albert H. Harvey opened the event by commending outgoing Chairman Jalloh for his leadership and expressing gratitude to the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Hannah Isata Sao-Kpato Max-Kyne, for her support in transforming the water sector. Dr. Harvey welcomed the incoming Chairman with optimism, emphasizing SALWACO’s commitment to teamwork and its strategic goals.
Outgoing Chairman Jalloh, in his farewell address, reflected on his tenure, highlighting achievements under his leadership and expressing confidence in the new Chairman’s ability to sustain progress. “I leave with a sense of pride in what we’ve accomplished together, and I trust Mr. Ndanema will continue to drive the vision forward,” he said.
In his inaugural remarks, Mr. Ndanema thanked President Julius Maada Bio for the opportunity to lead and outlined his vision for SALWACO. He pledged to prioritize expanding access to safe drinking water, aiming to meet the government’s target of 70% coverage. Mr. Ndanema also emphasized the role of water in agricultural irrigation under the “Feed Salone” initiative, urging SALWACO to align its efforts with this broader development agenda.
Minister Sao-Kpato Max-Kyne delivered the keynote address, praising SALWACO for its dedication to service delivery and acknowledging the contributions of both the outgoing and incoming chairmen. “SALWACO remains a cornerstone in our mission to improve water access across Sierra Leone,” she stated, expressing confidence in Mr. Ndanema’s capacity to lead the organization.
Board members and stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to SALWACO’s mission, signaling a united front as the company continues its work to enhance access to clean water across Sierra Leone. The ceremony concluded with calls for collaboration to achieve the organization’s strategic goals.
