The Inspector General of Police (IGP), William Fayia Sellu has responded to the 2023 Audit Report which implicated his institution of Le6.6 Billion unaccounted for.

According to the police head in an interview on AYV stated that the report is not true referencing areas the audit report may have failed to capture, making example to members who become lawyers as they automatically have a change of salary.

He categorically debunk the statement, adding that his institution will be engaging the media shortly to clarify the issue.

According to him, there were police officers in the Audit Service whose names were under his institution but were not paid from his institution’s funds which he said wold have clouded the minds of those who did the audit.

He said the two hundred and sixty five staff which the Audit Report indicated that does not match the staff roster is derived from the institution’s lawyers, doctors, etc which he said will be explained as they are in constant engagement with the audit team.

“For example if we are recruiting a doctor, he is coming with his own pin code and salary skill.”

While answering question on whether the Audit Report was due to non compliance from his institution, he said his institution is the most compliance with the Audit as there are staff from the audit Service attached to his institution.

He said the issue was brought up during the audit exit summit which is normally held to clarify issues which the report deemed necessary and this particular issue was brought up and was clarified, making him wondering how it should be reflected.

He said the auditor in his department was also confused how the Audit Report come with such conclusion which he said is another aspect of investigation between them and the audit department.
