Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has praised the contributions of motorcycle riders to Sierra Leone’s development during a recent visit to several riding parks in Freetown.
“I was truly impressed by the dedication and professionalism of the bike riders,” said Dr. Sengeh. “They are not just a mode of transportation; they are vital to our economy, our society, and even our national security.”
Sengeh, accompanied by the National Executive of the Bike Riders Union, engaged with riders, rode alongside them, and discussed their roles in society and the challenges they face. He presented ten scholarships to union members for skills development.
“The relationship between the riders and the police has significantly improved,” stated Dr. Sengeh. “This is a testament to the leadership of Inspector General of Police William Fayia Sellu and the vision of President Bio.”

The Chief Minister highlighted the significant economic impact of the motorcycle riding sector, employing over 2.1 million people. “They are the backbone of our informal sector,” Dr. Sengeh emphasized. “Their work supports market women, contributes to government revenue, and drives economic growth.”
The Chief Minister also recognized the role of riders in maintaining peace and national security, aligning with the government’s “Big Five” development agenda. “They are an integral part of our society,” Dr. Sengeh said. “Their contributions to agriculture, education, and employment are invaluable.”
Sengeh addressed the challenges faced by riders, including the need for insurance and welfare schemes, improved traffic infrastructure, and affordable motorcycle prices. “We are committed to working with the riders to address their concerns and improve their livelihoods,” he assured.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of inclusivity in policy development, emphasizing President Bio’s vision for all Sierra Leoneans to contribute to the nation’s transformation. “Every Sierra Leonean has a role to play in building a better future for our country,” Dr. Sengeh concluded.
