Sierra Leone has taken a bold step towards educational advancement by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agilix Labs, Inc., a leading U.S.-based educational technology firm.
The agreement, signed by Minister of Technical and Higher Education Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, aims to establish the Future Learning Institute (FLI), which will leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform vocational and higher education in the country.
The signing ceremony took place at Lancaster House in London during the 2025 Education World Forum (EWF), the largest annual gathering of education ministers and global policy leaders.
The agreement reportedly marks a crucial step towards incorporating AI into various educational processes, including curriculum development, tutoring, assessment, and instructional support.
Notably, Under the terms of the MoU, the Agilix Labs will provide advanced AI-powered infrastructure for the Future Learning Institute, which includes authoring tools, intelligent tutoring platforms, assessment technologies, and course delivery systems.
Agilix Labs would also facilitate the implementation of those technologies through training workshops and operational resources. The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education will manage the FLI facilities, oversee financial and grant management, and promote FLI activities across the nation.
Minister Wurie described the agreement as “a significant step forward in Sierra Leone’s educational resurgence and increasing global recognition.” She spotlighted the country’s commitment to adopting modern, technology-driven learning methods to enhance educational outcomes.
Curt Allen, President, CEO, and Co-founder of Agilix Labs, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Agilix is proud to partner with Sierra Leone on the remarkable journey to empower its citizens and reclaim its historic role as a leading center of education on the African continent.” He noted that Agilix Labs has developed acclaimed platforms like Buzz and TutorKit, which are utilized by educational institutions worldwide.
The Future Learning Institute initiative is poised to position Sierra Leone at the forefront of educational innovation in West Africa, as it reportedly aligned with the broader national vision of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, who has consistently emphasized education as a key driver for achieving Sierra Leone’s development goals.
