The Ministry of Health and its partners through the support of Iceland has launched a new fistula surgery center at the Bo Government Hospital in the South of Sierra Leone.
This center will offer transformative care for women and girls dealing with obstetric fistula.
The surgery is to help women and girls suffering from obstetric fistula reclaim their health and dignity.
Research has showed that obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic childbirth injuries. A hole between the birth canal and bladder and/or rectum, it is caused by prolonged, obstructed labour without access to timely, high-quality medical treatment.
