President Dr. Julius Maada Bio officially launched the “Independent Cross-Party Committee on Electoral Systems and Management Bodies Review” on 21st November 2023. This move aims to enhance the transparency and effectiveness of electoral systems and management bodies within the country.
The Co-Chairpersons leading this crucial committee are Dr. Emmanuel A. R. Gaima and Dr. Kelfala Marah. With a collaborative spirit, these co-chairs will play a pivotal role in overseeing the comprehensive review of electoral systems and management bodies in Sierra Leone.
The Committee comprises esteemed members from various sectors, fostering a cross-party and inclusive approach. From the government, key figures include Dr. Emmanuel A. R. Gaima (Co-Chair), Hon Dr. Fatmata Hassan, Mdm Isatu J Kabbah, Hon. Helen Kuyembeh, Hon. Umaru Napoleon Koroma, Hon. Alpha Sesay, and Rd. Hon. Justice John Kamanda.
The All Peoples Congress Party is well-represented by Dr. Kelfala Marah (Co-Chair), Dr. Richard Konteh, Ambassador Alimamy Petito Koroma, Mr. Boniface Sidikie Kamara, Mr. David Fornah, Mdm. Bernadette Kargbo, and Mr. Prince Tholley.
Additionally, institutional nominees from the Institute of Governance Reform, 50-50 Group, Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone, and the National Council for Civic Education and Democracy reflect a holistic and diverse approach to the review process.
