The Sierra Leone Police have confirmed the discovery of an abandoned vessel resembling a customized mini-submarine along the Black Johnson coastal area in the early hours of January 18, 2025.
According to a press release dated January 20, the discovery followed a tip-off that led the Naval Wing of the Security Sector to deploy personnel to Yenkain Beach, where the vessel was found and secured.
The vessel was subsequently towed to the Military Navy Base at Murray Town for detailed examination. On January 19, between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., a joint security team comprising various institutions conducted a comprehensive search of the vessel’s three main compartments, including the captain’s cabin. The search involved cutting through sections of the vessel to ensure thorough inspection.
No items or materials of security concern were found during the operation, officials confirmed. The vessel has been handed over to the Marine Wing of the Sierra Leone Police for further examination, including forensic swab analysis. The results are expected to aid on-going investigations.
Authorities assured the public of their dedication to maintaining security and order, emphasizing their commitment to providing a safe environment.
IG and the team seem to be compromised; President Bio needs to think twice and make some important and strategic changes. Possibly make use of the military where necessary for the sake of our national security in the fight against drug smuggling
An abandoned vessel huh? It was still in a good enough condition that it could be boarded and inspected, which means they were able to successfully traffic their drugs, then either abandoned ship or planned to get back to it after delivering the drugs. I hope this isn’t yet another issue that we hear nothing about later. What is going on with the Guinea ambassador case? This also brings up another issue. Ar know say we country buff, but what if someone was bringing in trouble makers for cam take over di country? They could have landed easily apparently. Talk of our naval wing na joke. Our shoreline is not that long, we should be able to track vessels that are approaching the country.
I want to believe that the vessel was abandoned close to the coast of Freetown and we don’t know the owner or occupants and where they might be. But for sure they are some where around Freetown. So our security officers should be on the alarm and also scout around Freetown; they may locate those that were on the vessel.
