The Sierra Leonean Government, via the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), has acquired 550,000 doses of malaria vaccines valued at $5.5 million. This initiative aims to bolster efforts in addressing healthcare needs for the sick within the sector.

This came as part of the minister’s landmark achievement in working for the people and getting the health sector very proactive for the safety of the people in the country.

Minister Austin Demby maintained that, this is as part of the campaign to reducing the malaria deaths in the country adding that, the vaccines has been recommended and approved by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

He maintained that the donation was supported by GAVI and the UNICEF Sierra Leone and that the drugs will help address the death of 25% of children to the disease in the country.

GAVI is the Vaccine Alliance which helps to vaccinate half of the world’s children against deadly and debilitating diseases.

With the new safe and efficacious malaria vaccine, we now have an additional tool to fight malaria. Gavi board approved 1.7M doses for SL2024/25. In combination with treated bed nets effective diagnosis and treatment, indoor spraying, NO SL CHILD SHOULD DIE FROM MALARIA INFECTION” Minister Demby stated.
