The Government of Sierra Leone has officially opened the first Eastern Region office of the Sierra Leone Immigration Department in Kenema, marking a significant milestone in the nationwide rollout of the Unified Permit system.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Minister of Internal Affairs, Rtd. AIG Morie Lengor said the new facility will decentralise Resident and Work Permit services, making them more accessible, efficient, and compliant across the country.

He noted that establishing the office is part of broader efforts to improve service delivery within the immigration sector, particularly for residents and businesses operating outside the capital.

The facility, funded by Constrat Systems, is also expected to provide a wider range of immigration services to the public, reducing the need for long-distance travel to access essential documentation.

Minister Lengor further disclosed that additional immigration offices are planned for Bo, Kono, Makeni, and Port Loko in the near future. Similar decentralisation efforts from the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security will complement these expansions.

The opening of the Kenema office represents a key step toward modernising immigration services and strengthening administrative efficiency nationwide.
