Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and the African Union (AU), Harold Bundu Saffa, has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to regional stability during the 16th annual joint consultative meeting of the AU Peace and Security Council (AU-PSC) and the European Union Political and Security Committee (EUPSC), held from 7th to 9th October 2025.

Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Saffa emphasized West Africa’s shared responsibility to address challenges in peace, security, and climate change. He highlighted Sierra Leone’s alignment with regional and international efforts to support stability in the Sahel.

“Sierra Leone lies close to the Sahel, and we are acutely aware of the evolving situation there,” Ambassador Saffa said. “With President Bio as current Chair of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, we have been actively engaging with Sahelian leaders to promote peace and cooperation.”

He assured participants that West Africa remains united in safeguarding the stability and security of the Sahel, underscoring the importance of collaboration between AU and EU institutions.

Ambassador Saffa also commended AU Chair for October, Tebelelo Boang, and the meeting organizers for their dedication to coordinating the annual consultative dialogue, which aims to strengthen regional and international cooperation on security and climate issues.
