In a diplomatic outreach, Sierra Leone’s Surge Medical team visited Ambassador Eddie S. Massally at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Liberia on January 18th, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to formally communicate their mission to provide crucial medical aid to the victims of the devastating Tanker Explosion in Totota, Lower Bong County, Liberia, on December 26th, 2023.
Ambassador Massally, alongside his Deputy Jonathan A. Saffa and Head of Chancery Mrs. Sia A. Tejan, warmly received the medical team. Massally commended the initiative, highlighting the significance of such collaborations in strengthening both nations’ institutions, especially in the aftermath of disasters like the Totota incident.
Dr. Abdulai Jalloh, leading the medical team, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and shared their success in collaborating with Liberian authorities and local hospitals. He revealed that the Liberian government had requested an extension of their stay due to the positive impact of their medical interventions. Additionally, Dr. Jalloh emphasized their commitment to knowledge transfer, enhancing the capabilities of their Liberian counterparts.
The SURGE Medical team, spearheaded by Dr. Abdulai Jalloh, included Dr. Mohamed Alieu Kargbo, Dr. Nadia N Yilla, Maximillian Obed Bangura, Raliatu Omolaja, Jesseh Banguah, Shole Beckley, and Samuel S. Kargbo. Together, they are not only providing clinical care to burn victims but also actively engaging in sharing medical expertise, fostering a collaborative healthcare environment between Sierra Leone and Liberia.
