On International Women’s Day, the President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Ahmed Sahid Nasralla, reaffirmed his commitment to gender equality and inclusive leadership within the association.

“As we approach our elections, I encourage female journalists to step forward and contest for leadership positions. Your voices, skills, and perspectives are essential in shaping the future of our profession,” Nasralla stated.

He emphasized the importance of fairness and equal opportunities for all candidates, urging the current leadership to ensure a level playing field.

“SLAJ remains a platform where every journalist—regardless of gender—can aspire, lead, and thrive. Let us uphold our values of democracy and press freedom by supporting and uplifting each other. The door is open, and every capable journalist should feel empowered to walk through it,” he added.

As his tenure nears its end, Nasralla expressed gratitude for the support he has received.

“It has been an incredible journey, and I am proud of what we have achieved together. But the work is far from over. Let us continue pushing forward until gender equality in the media is no longer just an aspiration, but a reality,” he concluded.
