In light of the ongoing security situation in Freetown, the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) has issued a public notice addressing the impact on air travel.

The notice, released on Sunday, November 26, 2023, acknowledges the challenges faced by passengers scheduled for travel through Freetown International Airport (FNA) today.

Due to the State-declared nationwide curfew, currently in effect, the SLCAA urges airlines to reschedule departing passengers once the curfew is lifted. Despite the tense situation, Sierra Leone’s airspace remains open, and the SLCAA is committed to supporting the aviation industry.

“The SLCAA understands the challenges faced by passengers and airlines during this time,” the notice states. “We are committed to providing support to the aviation industry and ensuring the safety of air travel operations in Sierra Leone.”

The SLCAA appeals for compliance with the curfew and adherence to state security directives. The aviation authority assures unwavering support to airlines and the broader aviation industry during these challenging times.

“We urge all passengers, airlines, and stakeholders in the aviation sector to cooperate and work together to ensure the smooth and safe resumption of air travel once the situation stabilizes,” the SLCAA emphasizes.

The situation in Freetown remains fluid, and the SLCAA is closely monitoring developments. The aviation authority will provide further updates as they become available.
