The former Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service, Mr. Joseph Lamboi, has reportedly passed away in England.

He dedicated forty-two years of his life to the service, holding various positions including Prisons Manager, Head of Public Relations, Regional Commander West, Director of Support Services, and Deputy Director General, before ultimately becoming the Director General.

Lamboi served as Director General for over two years. His term was initially set to end in October 2020, but the government extended it by an additional year due to his contributions to the department.

During his tenure, Lamboi implemented significant initiatives, including the diversion of funds towards the construction of a child-friendly center for children of female inmates. His efforts also led to the establishment of a meeting room, a senior officers’ mess, a resource center, and a tuck shop for inmates, demonstrating his commitment to improving conditions within the correctional system.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, Lamboi prioritized the placement of young officers with integrity in positions of trust, moving away from the traditional reliance on older, more experienced officers. This shift aimed to modernize the service and foster a new generation of leadership.

Mr. Lamboi will be remembered fondly for his broad smiles and careful oratory, leaving a lasting impact on the Sierra Leone Correctional Service. The cause of his death remains unknown at this time.
