The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has officially endorsed the appointment of Mohamed Alphaka Conteh as the incoming Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), signaling early support for the recent leadership change at the top of the country’s sports regulatory body.
In a press release issued on Thursday, April 30, 2026, the SLFA extended its “warmest congratulations” to Conteh, describing the appointment as “well-deserved.”
The endorsement follows a sudden executive reshuffle. Earlier, the Office of the President announced that former NSA Executive Director Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai had been relieved of his duties by President Julius Maada Bio with immediate effect. While the Presidency confirmed Conteh as Abdulai’s replacement, no detailed reasons were provided for the abrupt dismissal.
The SLFA’s statement, signed by Head of Media and Marketing Ibrahim Kamara, expressed high confidence in the new leadership.
The football association highlighted Conteh’s “wealth of experience, strong leadership credentials, and commitment to the growth and development of sports in Sierra Leone.” The SLFA further noted that his stewardship is expected to “further strengthen governance and enhance the overall sporting ecosystem.”
While Conteh’s official assumption of the role remains subject to parliamentary approval, the SLFA has already outlined its readiness to collaborate.
Under the leadership of SLFA President Babadi Kamara, the football governing body stated it “looks forward to a productive collaboration with Mr. Conteh and the NSA in advancing football development and achieving shared national sporting goals.”
The National Sports Authority is the statutory body responsible for overseeing and regulating all sports administration and development across Sierra Leone. Further details regarding Conteh’s parliamentary approval and the official transition process are expected to be communicated by the government in due course.
